A high-profile lawsuit erupts into chaos, revealing its place in a larger spree of violence in this scandalous tale of lust, lies, and vengeance. A brazen gunman is targeting prominent African American men on the streets of Los Angeles, and police are completely baffled. At the same time, savvy big-firm attorney Vernetta Henderson and her outrageous sidekick, Special, lead the charge for revenge against a man whose deceit caused his fianceé’s death. For Special, hauling the man into court and suing him for wrongful death just isn’t good enough. While she exacts her own brand of justice, a shocking revelation connects the contentious lawsuit and the puzzling murders.
This was an incredible read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The main point of view is told from a team of four women who alternate. Each one has her own part in the plot line. The author did a wonderful job of switching points of view without causing confusion. And each woman had her own “voice”.
I had often heard the term “down low” being used, but I was not really aware of this usage for it. In this story, “down low” is the term used for a straight man who is messing around with guys behind the backs of their women.
I loved the fact that it took me until almost the end to finally figure out who the murderer was. There are too many of the books that I figure it out from much closer to the beginning. That takes the fun out of reading the book then. Whereas, if I am kept guessing like this book does, I enjoy the book that much more.
I don’t want to say too much because I definitely don’t want to spoil this one. It is a definite read though. You will be completely captivated from the beginning.
I will be on the look out for more of this authors books!
