With today’s political scene, we are constantly inundated with news briefs of who has been caught cheating on their wives. Well, this fictional story takes us into the mind of the mistress.
For the past five years, Sally has been cheating on her long term partner with Clive. It just so happens that Sally and Daniel are friends with Clive and Susan. So how do you end an affair with someone and still stay in the same social circles without letting anyone else know? Is it possible?
At first, I was very disconcerted when I tried to read this. Mainly because I wasn’t expecting the writing style. It was all written from Sally’s point of view. Everything was written as if she were talking to Clive about their break up and the subsequent things she was doing. It took me a little bit to realize that it was written in her journal.
This book takes you on a long spiral into the madness that Sally slides into. It starts out with harmlessly catching up with Susan at a restaurant. It just so happens it’s the same restaurant that Clive and Sally went to. Then friending Susan on facebook. It’s ok for her to friend her even though she is the wife of her ex-lover, right?
In Sally’s warped mind it is. This was one of those books that leaves you shocked, but you can’t put down. You just have to see how far Sally will go in justifying her actions. And how far Sally will go to stay in Clive’s life.
There were some major twists in this book that I never saw coming. You know how they say about watching train wrecks, that you just can’t look away. You know you shouldn’t be staring because its someone else’s misery and sadness. Well, Sally coming unhinged is that train wreck. You know you shouldn’t be looking so deep into her psyche, but you can’t look away. You just have to know what’s going to happen.
This was an extremely well written book. This is a first book for this author. I for one can’t wait to see how she is going to top this one. It’s going to be a hard act to follow.
