I haven’t had a cat in many years. Actually it wasn’t my cat, it was my sister Brenda’s cat, but she was still living at home at the time. So I considered Pyewacket (Wacky for short) my cat too.
I still remember the day that Wacky came into our lives. It was shortly after Sneakers (our previous cat) had died of old age. We were all really sad because we had Sneakers all of her life.
Not that long afterward, this cute adorable kitten showed up on our front porch. He kept rubbing himself up against the windows and pawing at them as if he were saying let me in. I immediately called Brenda since she was at work. I then begged my mom to let us keep him. She said that if he were still there when Brenda got off of work, we could consider it.
He thankfully stuck around and was with us for many many years.
Reading Chicken Soup For The Soul My Cat’s Life brought back that and so many other memories of years gone by with our cats. I remember how Sneakers used to like to float on a raft in the pool. Or how Wacky would go next door and meow by the door until they would let their toy poodle out to play with him. Wacky used to also sneak up on our dog, bat him on the rump, and then run.
It was so nice to be able to recall all those warm memories. It was equally nice to share in the memories of others.
I have always loved the Chicken Soup series. They are great for a nice pick me up, but there are also those stories that will help you to shed those tears that have been bottled up inside. There are even some really hilarious stories. My favorite was Let Stinking Cats Lie. The authors sister decided to attempt to wash the cat. For most cats, that’s not exactly the best idea. For this particular cat, it was the worst possible thing you could do. The cat was chasing the poor girl around the house until her mom opened up a door and she could run inside. I could picture this in my minds eye and had a wonderful chuckle.
One of the great things about the Chicken Soup series is that each story is bite sized. And each bite is so very different then the rest. So you never know what morsel you are going to get, but each one should be savored.
