Last night I got the chance to watch the screening of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at the IMAX theater.
When we got there, several of the patrons were actually dressed in full pirate regalia. They were having a grand time getting into character and interacting with everyone else. I am thinking they are probably part of the group that does the pirate fest down here. I just wish I would have brought my phone in with me so I could have snapped a few pictures.
Since I was going in as part of the media, they had us all sitting in the back. Normally, I don’t sit in the back of movie theaters. I had never thought about it at the IMAX before. I just normally gravitated towards the middle there as well. I am newly converted. The back row of the IMAX is the best. We were back & center seating.
If you have never been to an IMAX before, this is the movie you definitely want to go to.
As you probably already know Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly did not make a return appearance for this film. Even though I missed seeing Orlando Bloom on the screen, I didn’t feel that the movie was lacking.
Once again, Johnny Depp plays the part of Captain Jack Sparrow, the most intriguing pirate on the seven seas. Since you didn’t have Will Turner or Elizabeth Swan in the film, you don’t have as many subplots going on. So most of the time, Jack Sparrow is on screen.
The story of course was full of high seas adventure starting with Gibbs on trial as they believe he is actually Captain Jack Sparrow. Don’t worry, Captain Jack is up to his usual hijinks.
So make sure to don your best pirate gear, fill yer belly with hard tack and gruel, then set course for your local theater on May 20th or you might just be keel-hauled. Savvy
If you have young girls who are still into The Little Mermaid and tales like that, then the mermaid scene may be a little much. These are the cute mermaids that go around singing. They are vicious, half naked (though their hair cascades down to cover), fanged creatures who will do anything to eat humans.
Don’t forget to enter my giveaway to win a treasure trove of Pirates goodies. You can find the link in the left sidebar. The giveaway ends on 5/20.
Extra Special Hint:
Most people get up and start leaving the theater once the credits start rolling. Here is a very helpful hint, DON’T! Wait until every single credit has rolled. You will be thankful that you did!
I want to thank Disney and AutoNation IMAX for allowing me the opportunity to see the screening and provide you with this review.
