Those of you in the gaming world know of the horrors that are going on with Sony Online Entertainment and the PlayStation Network.
Well, I have been going through some massive withdrawals since they took the Everquest2 servers offline!!
One of my guildies decided to temporarily jump ship. She is trying out Rift. She is in love with the game. So she got me to try it. OMFG! I am going so fan girl with it right now.
There are many things that remind me of WoW though. All the things that I did like about WoW are here.
So here in all her wonderful glory is the newly born Wakela on the Belmont server!!
There are currently six races: three for the Defiant (baddies) and three for the Guardians (goodies).
I chose to make Wakela a high elf because that is what she told me she wanted to be! LOL!
Of course she is a mage in this game. One of the cool things about this game is that you choose a class of warrior, mage, priest, or rogue. And yes, I know how to spell rogue!! LOL! That bothers me when I see rouge LFG being spammed in chat. Know how to spell your class if you are going to play one. Sorry stepping off the soap box now.
Anyway, now that my train of thought has derailed… Let’s get her back on course. You choose the class, but then you can gather souls as you level that will allow you to specialize in various things. There are eight souls per class. And you get to have 3 souls active at a time. So you can then create a combination that is specific to your character.
Once you have your souls, you then you can further specialize by putting points in the “soul tree”. This is like the AA system in EQ2. By placing your points in the “soul tree” you are thereby creating a character that is completely unique to you.
Right now Wakela has Pyromancer (gotta love throwing fire balls!), Elementalist (for those days when you want to just freeze their balls off!), and Dominator (can we say crowd control?). Now this is definitely my dream toon!! I can DPS and mez! Oh and I get a cute little pet. I didn’t get a screenie of him though… Guess I will have to make sure that I get one when I log in next.
So if you are feeling lost with out some MMO love, then head over to Rift!!
Oh and for those who are gun shy because of the whole SOE hack business, they actually have security in place. In fact, I have a cute little FREE app on my iPhone that is an authenticator. Basically when I am logging in, the game will ask me for an auth number. I fire up the app, it gives me a random number. I punched that into the game and it allows me access. Without that number, they can’t get in. And as far as I can tell, the app can only by sync’d with 1 account. I am not sure though.
The app is entirely optional though. I just like it for extra security. Especially since my EQ2 account was hacked a few months back. For whatever reason, the person who hacked it didn’t steal all my plat, they didn’t sell off all my stuff, they just deleted my level 90 toon. HUH? That doesn’t even make sense. But according to SOE reps, that is exactly why my level 90 toon was completely gone from my account, but all my other toons were still there. Ummm.. yea… That makes a heck of a lot of sense…
