From the acclaimed author of the Morgan Kingsley, Exorcist books comes the gripping first novel in a new series about a private eye who discovers, to her surprise, that she’s an immortal huntress.
Nikki Glass can track down any man. But when her latest client turns out to be a true descendant of Hades, Nikki now discovers she can’t die. . . .
Crazy as it sounds, Nikki’s man hunting skills are literally god-given. She’s a living, breathing descendant of Artemis who has stepped right into a trap set by the children of the gods. Nikki’s new “friends” include a descendant of Eros, who uses sex as a weapon; a descendant of Loki, whose tricks are no laughing matter; and a half-mad descendant of Kali who thinks she’s a spy.
But most powerful of all are the Olympians, a rival clan of immortals seeking to destroy all Descendants who refuse to bow down to them. In the eternal battle of good god/bad god, Nikki would make a divine weapon. But if they think she’ll surrender without a fight, the gods must be crazy. . .
I don’t know where to begin with this one. I don’t want to gush so much that you think I am a crazed fan girl, but guess what! Jenna Black is my new favorite author! OMG!
I absolutely loved this book. I made the really bad mistake of starting this book at 11pm the night I got it in the mail. I couldn’t put it down. I finished it shortly after 4am. So guess who didn’t get any sleep that night at all!!!
It was worth it though. First off, I absolutely am in love with the characters. Nikki was so new to this whole Liberi thing. Even though they told her she was immortal, she still had the whole ok, I am going to die if this guy gets ahold of me attitude. Which is completely believable. I mean seriously, if you knew all your life that you could die if attacked, that thought structure wouldn’t go away because someone just told you that you were a Liberi. It would still be ingrained in your thought process. And Jenna made sure that our heroine was flawed just like she should be.
I am still trying to figure out Anderson. He completely threw me for a loop. And no, I am not going to give anything away. However, if anyone can clue me in on which god, please feel free. I wanted to break out my Encyclopedia of Gods & Goddesses, but I wouldn’t even know where to begin my search.
I hope we get to find out more about Logan in another book. I know that he wasn’t much of a character in this one, but wow…. There was just something about him. I guess it was because of that whole warrior god thing.
I really liked that she brought in a bunch of the different pantheons. We had the Greeks, Hindus, and Norse. Hopefully, she will showcase some more pantheons also in the upcoming books. It would be nice to see some strong Celtic influence such as Bridget.
This is the first in this series. Jenna does have another series that I am going to look into getting. I can’t believe I haven’t read anything by her before now.
